I'm asking everyone to pray that the good Lord will give Joed the strength to endure this struggle. I'm also asking everyone to pray for his family and friends whose worry, pain and fears I could only imagine.
Joed was always a cheerful voice in class. He's witty, hilarious, and he even bagged "Best Speaker" in one of our debate rounds.
We want him back.
Please pray for him.

DESCRIPTIVE WRITING - For Eng 111 - A and G
Write a 250-300 word descriptive essay about the song "I Love You Goodbye". Hear the song. Look at the song. Taste the song. Touch the song. Smell the song. Push the boundaries of imagination.
All entries must attempt to manifest college-level writing. Essays that contain statements like "The song is beautiful", "I love it", "It made me cry", "I can relate...", and the like will be fed to the trash bin. (Joke lang.) Avoid using cliche statements. Apply the ideas we discussed in class. All essays must be submitted in class on Monday, September 15. Same format. Have fun.

For 211 E, F, and N
Date Posted: Wed, September 10
Deadline: Saturday, September 13, On or Before 6pm
Last time I asked you to give me seven reasons why people debate (or should debate). I am impressed with your output, and I hope the next entry will be equally good.
Blog # 2 will require you to provide a brief rebuttal of each reason you provided earlier. Say, if your argument (reason) discusses how debate fosters critical thinking, show how this argument is flawed, illogical, irrelevant or pointless. Two to four sentences per rebuttal.
Examples:
1
Reason: Debate fosters critical thinking.
Rebuttal: Most debaters usually just "pirate" their arguments online. They regurgitate not their own analysis, but ideas already processed by other sources. The net provides a rich repository of online arguments for and against classic issues like death penalty, gay rights, equal pay for women, euthanasia, etc. Not much thinking is happening especially when students are simply obssessed with reading their notes instead of doing real debating.
2
Reason: Debate is important for the survival of humankind (LOL).
Rebuttal: What? Debate is mere talk, no action. The world has long debated on important issues that beset regions of the planet. From the orgy of government-sponsored murder in Darfur to the the disappearance of North Korea's Dear Father, talk and nothing but talk produced half-baked resolutions. Has debate help prevent the American occupation of sovereign Iraq? Has debate led to the expulsion from office of the shameless squatter in the presidential seat? Has debate made the world a safer, more harmonious, and more tolerant place to live in?

major essay 1
STANDING UP
For your first major essay,
MECHANICS
A narrative essay re-creates an experience for a central purpose: usually to reveal an insight about the action or people involved.
A narrative should have a central focus, but it is not always necessary to express the focus in a thesis sentence early in the essay.
Your narrative essay should be based on your personal experience.
Aim for an essay from 500 to 1,000 words long. Do not go beyond the maximum number of words required.
Keep verb tense and point of view consistent.
Same format as last time applies.
